The 74: Superintendent’s View: Designing a Learner-Centered Ecosystem in Kansas City

Superintendent, Liberty 53 Public School District

Accomplished educational leader with 16 years of experiences as a School Superintendent. Currently serving as Superintendent of Schools for Liberty Public Schools in Liberty, Missouri over the last 10 years. During this time, the district successfully completed a facility master planning process, leading to the passage of a $49 million No-Tax Increase Bond Issue with 82% voter approval. In 2017, Liberty Public Schools was accepted into the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, recognizing our commitment to innovative learning experiences. Honored to be recognized as a ’20 to Watch’ educator for 2016-2017 by the National School Boards Association and the 2019 Missouri Superintendent of the Year. During the 2018-2019 school year, the District developed an agile strategic plan based on the Knoster Change Model, solicited community-wide feedback in the development of a Portrait of A Graduate, and reframed our traditional Mission, Vision, and Values statements into a Vivid Vision. Most recently, the District passed the largest No-Tax Increase Bond Issue, $120 million, with an 81% passage rate. The process of refreshing the districts Strategic Plan, Vivid Vision, and Portrait of A Graduate began in the spring of 2024 and is expected to be finalized for the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Service and leadership opportunities have included, President of the Greater Kansas City Cooperating School Districts (GKCCSD), Advisory Council member for the Kansas City area Real World Learning (RWL) initiative, President Elect of the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA), Facilitator for the Success Ready Students Network (SRSN), and Board Member of the Third Culture Kids International Academy (TCKIA).
