Project Implicit

The conventional education system does not embrace racial justice as a central tenet of childhood learning and development. When efforts are made, they mostly show up as peripheral exercises in one-hour professional development sessions or small add-ons to rigid curricula. And, examining how one unconsciously perpetuates racism is often not even touched upon.

What if we shifted our thinking and embedded racial equity tools and resources into educator training and the implementation plans of how we guide young people in learning about race, justice, and freedom? One tool for consideration is Project Implicit—an effort by Harvard, University of Virginia, and University of Washington psychologists to develop Hidden Bias Tests.
