Coalition of Essential Schools

The Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) was founded on the belief that “the central purpose of schools is to teach students how to use their minds well.”

This simple statement has led to over 30 years of national service—supporting over 600 schools and 250,000 learners in 41 states and five countries. CES prides itself on supporting the development of “personalized, equitable, and intellectually challenging schools.” With their set of 10 Common Principles , CES lays out the foundational elements of their model, which can be uniquely applied depending on the community’s needs and resources. As with any resource, beliefs and principles are nothing more than meaningless musings without viable results to back them up—and results are what CES has.
